Our list of diabetes medications keeps getting longer and longer. TheFederal Drug Administration approved another new drug on Jan 30,2012 . It is Jentadueto, an oral agent taken 2 times a day that combines DPP-4 inhibitor linagliptin (Trajenta) and metformin hydrochloride. It is approved by the FDA for adults with type 2 diabetes to use along with diet and exercise to help control blood sugar, The newly approved drug is a joint Lilly/Boehringer development. The FDA said Jentadueto can be used alone or in combination with a sulfonylurea.
