Two New Diabetes Drugs Approved by FDA for February 2012 Availability

1-31-12:  FDA  has just approved 2 new diabetes drugs:


1)  Amylin’s BYDUREON™


Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved BYDUREON™, the first once-weekly treatment for type 2 diabetes. BYDUREON™ is a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes in multiple clinical settings. BYDUREON™ will be available in pharmacies nationwide in February, 2012.

2)  Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly’s Jentadueto™ 

Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Eli Lilly and Company announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Jentadueto™(linagliptin/metformin hydrochloride) tablets, a new tablet combining the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, linagliptin, and metformin. Jentadueto™ provides a new, single-tablet treatment option, taken twice-daily, for patients who need to control their blood sugar.
