Diabetic neuropathy is a common complication of diabetes , in which nerves are damaged as a result of hyperglycemia (high blood sugar levels). Dr Vinik discusses its impact on the quality of life as well as new treatment modalities.

1. Distinguish the various presentations of the patient with Diabetic Neuropathy (DN) 2. Recognize the impact on life for the patient with Diabetic Neuropathy. 3. Review the current understanding of the pathogenesis of DN. 4. List the risk factors for the development of DN. 5. Differentiate between large fiber and small fiber neuropathies. 6. Review effective treatment strategies for the patient with painful DN.
