Dr. Robbins discusses the research surrounding mortality and diabetic foot complications. He discusses the evidence behind an amputation prevention program, emphasizes the significance of the concept of “malignant diabetes,” and discusses the difficulties communicating risk to patients. He ends with a discussion of patient centered care.

Goal and Objective
After participating in this activity, the viewer should be better able to:
1. Describe the components of an amputation prevention program.
2. Explain the five year survival for patients with diabetic foot ulcers, amputations and various forms of cancer.
3. Discuss the difficulties convincing patients to practice good self foot care.
4. Define patient centered care.
