This lecture Lynn Grieger, RD, CDE, cPT describes the differences between coaching and traditional nutrition therapy models in promoting permanent behavior change. The research on the effectiveness of online and telephonic coaching as a cost- and clinically-effective means to promote successful behavior change is reviewed, and several models of virtual coaching are described. Various training and certification programs available for health professionals interested in using coaching techniques are presented.

Goal and Objective
After participating in this activity, the viewer should be better able to:
1. To delineate the differences between the coaching and traditional education model for behavior change.
2. To provide the research evidence base for the coaching model.
3. To discuss how coaching is a cost- and clinically-effective means to provide and promote behavior change.
4. To describe coach training and certification programs for health professionals.

While a 56Kbps dial-up connection is supported, a Cable or DSL broadband Internet is strongly recommended for optimal video playback.
